B.J. Novak Has the Sweetest Relationship with Mindy Kaling's Kids
Mindy Kaling's oldest daughter wants to live in B.J. Novak's home for this funny reason.
It's been well over a decade since The Office ended, and not only are former co-stars and co-writers Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak still close friends — but Novak also shares a special bond with her kids.
The pair became household names thanks to their roles in — and their behind-the-scenes work on — the mockumentary sitcom. They dated on and off in the past, and have remained incredibly close over the years.
They're so tight that Kaling, a single mom, chose Novak as the godfather of all three of her children, Katherine, Spencer, and Anne.

Novak referred to Kaling as his "best friend" in an April 28 story in The Wall Street Journal, saying that they talk daily. He also told a cute anecdote about Kaling's eldest child, Katherine, involving the house he's lived in since 2011 in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles.
"Her 8-year-old daughter recently said she wished they lived at my house," Novak said. "When I asked why, she said, 'It's like a little house in the country.'"

Novak and Katherine have always shared a close relationship.
"The truth is that B.J. is so much more like family now than a platonic friend," Kaling said of Novak in an interview with Good Housekeeping that ran in 2019, in which she said he was Katherine's godfather.
"He comes over once a week," Kaling said at the time. "Sometimes he'll come over just to hang out with her."

Katherine — who goes by Kit — has also given her godfather a nickname.
"Kit nicknamed me Fofo, which is based on a Duolingo for kids character — the bear Fofo," Novak said during an April 20 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. "So, I got her a Fofo stuffed animal for her collection, and that hit the spot."
