How to Watch Los Angeles Chargers vs. Detroit Lions on Peacock LIVE, Schedule, Kickoff Time

Football is back. Find out how to stream the first preseason NFL game of the year LIVE from Canton, Ohio.

Hall of Fame Game: Chargers vs. Lions Thursday at 7p ET on NBC and Peacock

It’s always right about this point in the summer that we really miss football. NFL Kickoff is still just over a month away, and for a football fan, that can be the longest month of all. Good thing there’s a preseason. The big stars may see limited time, but that just means every play is an opportunity for a rookie to prove themselves. These could be the games where a backup earns the starting job. These may be exhibition games, but for the players who are on the field, there’s a ton at stake.

Nowhere is that truer than the Pro Football Hall of Fame game. It’s the first taste of NFL action we’ve had since February. It’s the biggest stage of the preseason, and if these players can perform under this primetime spotlight, they’ll more than prove they’re ready for the regular season. Only two teams get this opportunity each year. This year, all eyes are on the Los Angeles Chargers and the Detroit Lions.

Los Angeles Chargers vs. Detroit Lions

The Chargers experienced a massive improvement in 2024. They went 11–6 in the regular season, far outpacing their 5–12 record from 2023. They hope to continue that momentum this season and get even better. In 2024, the Chargers earned themselves a playoff berth but lost in the Wild Card round to the Houston Texans. No shame there, the Texans went on a rampage in the AFC last season and humbled a ton of great teams. We don’t know who exactly will play in this game yet, as many starters may opt to rest up for the regular season, but there’s a good chance we’ll see this year’s draft class out there, including running back Omarion Hampton, wide receivers Tre Harris and KeAndre Lambert-Smith, defensive lineman Jamaree Caldwell, and more. This year’s Chargers want to take it all the way to February, and they’ve got a shot. It all starts this weekend against another potential Super Bowl contender.

The Lions looked near unstoppable last year. They took two losses all season, one to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2 and one to the Buffalo Bills in Week 15. During the regular season, they looked like the team that always had a little extra in the tank. They locked up first place in the NFC, earning themselves a first-round bye, but lost in a wild upset to the Washington Commanders in the divisional round. This year’s Lions don’t want to repeat last postseason’s performance. They loaded up on defense in the draft, taking linemen Tyleik Williams and Ahmed Hassanein, and safety Dan Jackson. They also signed up some protection for quarterback Jared Goff in offensive lineman Tate Ratledge and gave Goff some new weapons in the form of wide receivers Isaac TeSlaa and Dominic Lovett. We’ll likely see all those rookies out on the field during this game. Head coach Dan Campbell said he plans to play his rookies all preseason. There’s no better test for a new player than to face a tough team in the Hall of Fame Game.
