If you watched any pro wrestling in the '90s or the early 2000s, then you know the legend that is Shawn Michaels. Whether you know him as The Heartbreak Kid, The Showstopper, or even Mr. WrestleMania, Michaels dominated WWE wrestling from 1992 to his retirement in 2010. 

Now Peacock and WWE are celebrating the career and ongoing legacy of Michaels in a brand-new Peacock Original documentary, The Heartbreak Kid: Becoming Shawn Michaelswhich is now streaming exclusively on Peacock!

What is The Heartbreak Kid: Becoming Shawn Michaels about? 

This documentary bills itself as an "intimate look" at Michaels’ entire career, revealing his rise to fame, his superstardom in the wrestling ring, and his most personal stories outside the spotlight. 

Per the official logline, the doc "spotlights his incredible ability and the personal struggles that led to one of the most improbable redemption stories in WWE history. Viewers will be taken on a journey through his life while also getting an inside look at Michaels’ role as the head of WWE’s developmental brand, NXT."

Who is Shawn Michaels?

An elder-statesman in the professional wrestling world, Shawn Michaels is a a two-time WWE Hall of Fame inductee, in 2011 as a singles wrestler and again in 2019 as part of the "Attitude Era" tag team, D-Generation X. Michaels retired in 2010 as a four-time WW world champion, a three-time WWF Championship winner, and a WWE World Heavyweight Champion. 

Known best by wrestling fans as "The Heartbreak Kid," or HBK, Michael left the lights of the ring, but continues to shape current and future generations of pro wrestlers as the Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative for the NXT wrestling brand.

Who's in The Heartbreak Kid: Becoming Shawn Michaels documentary?

The documentary features commentary from several WWE Hall of Famers, including WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, The Undertaker, Kevin Nash and Bret Hart, as well as WWE Superstars Trick Williams and Je’Von Evans. Additional interviews include NXT Superstars Joe Hendry, Ethan Page, Jacy Jayne, Sol Ruca and Shawn Spears. 

The Heartbreak Kid: Becoming Shawn Michaels is the latest in a series of Peacock Original docs made in collaboration with WWE. It is executive produced by Paul Levesque, Lee Fitting and Ben Houser, produced by WWE, and directed by Matt Braine.
