Detroit Lions vs. Philadelphia Eagles
The Lions (6–3, 1st in NFC North) are on top of a competitive division with impressive wins over the Ravens and the Buccaneers on their 2025 resume. They haven’t been the unstoppable juggernaut we’ve seen the last two seasons, but they’re still terrifying to any team they come across. After opening the season with a loss, this team went on a tear, hanging 52 points on the Bears, 38 on the Ravens, 34 on the Browns, and 37 on the Bengals. Keeping Detroit out of the end zone just doesn’t seem to be an option for most teams. The last four weeks have been more up and down. Both the Chiefs and the Vikings were able to keep the Lions’ scoring contained enough to beat them. On the other hand, Detroit is coming off a 44–22 win over the Washington Commanders. This offense is still as explosive as ever. The real troubles are on the defense where injuries have sidelined key players like cornerback DJ Reed. Those 22 Washington points were scored by a team playing without its starting quarterback and No. 1 wide receiver. The Philadelphia offense will be tougher. Head coach Dan Campbell hopes the backup defenders can rise to the challenge because for Detroit to win this game, they need to keep the ball in quarterback Jared Goff’s hands as much as possible. Both teams play fast, physical football, so we expect a scoring battle here. If the offense can maintainits preferred lightning pace and the defense can make some key stops, the Lions could beat the defending Super Bowl champions in Philadelphia on Sunday.
The Eagles (7–2, 2nd in NFC East) are far and away at the top of their division. They are nearly a lock to make the playoffs, and if things keep going the way they have been, the Eagles could own the No. 1 NFC seed. Quarterback Jalen Hurts is almost impossible to bring down, and he can convert short fourth downs almost automatically. If you want to stop this team, you need to make the tackle far away from the line to gain. That’s a tall order when a running back like Saquon Barkley is on the field. He hasn’t been as prolific as last year, with only four rushing touchdowns so far. His presence is still making things happen for the Eagles, though. While defenses have been dealing with Barkley, Hurts has been able to rack up 1,860 passing yards and 16 touchdowns this season. There have been some concerning performances from this team, though. Their two losses came during a tough October stretch where they lost 21–17 to the Broncos and 34–17 to the Giants. Those were worrisome, but the Eagles seem to have fixed those issues. They immediately bounced back against the Vikings and then put up 38 points in a decisive win over those same Giants. Now though, they’re coming off a short week after eking out a 10–7 win in a brutal defensive battle with the Packers last Monday. Philly will need another defensive stand like that to beat the Lions, but will have to step up their offensive play to outscore Goff and company. Now is the time to get Barkley going, and if the Eagles can match (or even beat) Detroit’s offensive speed, they’ll come out on top on Sunday Night Football.
