How to Watch Man v Chelsea: Stream Premier League on Peacock LIVE, Schedule, Kickoff Time, and More
Manchester City host Chelsea in Matchweek 20 of Premier League.
Two of the Premier League’s Big Six face off this weekend when Chelsea visit Manchester City at the Etihad.
Manchester City v Chelsea
Unbeaten in their last nine games in all competitions, Manchester City enter this match in fantastic form. Pep Guardiola’s men currently sit in 2nd place on the Premier League table, four points off Arsenal in 1st. After dropping points against Sunderland in a 0–0 draw on Thursday, City will be eager to get back to winning ways against Chelsea and close the gap on the Gunners. The Cityzens will need Erling Haaland to get back on the scoresheet in this one, after he was held scoreless in his last two matches. Haaland leads the league with 19 goals in 19 games and will be looking to maintain his goalscoring form against a Chelsea defense that has not kept a clean sheet in their last four matches in all competitions. Supporting Haaland will be Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki, who have both been in fine form over the last month. Foden and Cherki have provided six goals and five assists over the month of December and have proven to be a threatening attacking duo operating behind Haaland. Speaking of dangerous attacking options, Jérémy Doku returned to the squad for Thursday’s match against Sunderland, coming on as a second-half substitute. He should be in line to start on Sunday. Before his injury, suffered against Real Madrid in the Champions League, he was one of the most in-form players in Premier League. Also returning from injury is former Ballon d'Or winner Rodri. Rodri also came on in the second half against Sunderland, gaining valuable minutes after a lengthy injury spell on the sidelines. Manchester City are close to returning to full strength at just the perfect time, and a win against Chelsea will be critical for their title aspirations.
Chelsea shocked the footballing world on Thursday after announcing that they would be parting ways with manager Enzo Maresca. The Blues were winless in their last three Premier League matches with only one win in their last seven, but it was reported that a breakdown in the relationship between Maresca and the club’s hierarchy was a significant factor in Chelsea’s decision. A replacement for Maresca has not yet been announced, and it has been confirmed that Under-21 coach Calum McFarlane will take over for Chelsea against Man City on Sunday. While a replacement is expected to be announced quickly, McFarlane will have a minimum of one game in charge for the Blues. Now in 5th place on the table, three points behind Liverpool in 4th and nine points behind Aston Villa in 3rd, Chelsea face a must-win game against City if they hope to keep their Top Four hopes alive. McFarlane will rely on star man Cole Palmer to lead the attack on Sunday. Palmer has two goals since returning from injury and is still looking to regain his form from the Club World Cup over the summer after missing a majority of the season so far. Supporting Palmer in attack will likely be Joao Pedro, who has scored two goals in his last two starts. Maresca opted to start Liam Delap in his last match at the helm, and it’s unclear if McFarlane will choose to do the same. McFarlane will also have a decision to make on both wings with Alejandro Garnacho, Pedro Neto, and Estêvão all beingpossible options. Defensively, the Blues have conceded two goals in all three of their last Premier League matches. The Chelsea defense will need to improve if they hope to keep the league’s most prolific goalscorer at bay on Sunday. Despite the poor defensive record, goalkeeper Robert Sánchez has looked impressive this season and will surely be busy against the league’s most potent attack.
