Sam Darnold and Jayden Daniels face off on Sunday Night Football: Seahawks vs. Commanders at 7p ET on Peacock and NBC

The biggest games of the NFL season are on Sunday Night Football. Every week, you can catch must-see matchups LIVE after the rest of Sunday’s action has concluded. This week, Sunday Night Football takes us to Summerfield, MD where the Seattle Seahawks will face the Washington Commanders

Seattle Seahawks vs. Washington Commanders

The Seahawks (5–2, 1st in NFC West) are tied at the top of their division with rival L.A. Rams. So far, they’ve seen more success away than at home. They have not been defeated on the road yet this season. A lot of their success can be attributed to the quarterback-wide receiver pair of Sam Darnold and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Darnold stunned everybody last season when he led the Vikings to a 14–3 record after initially being listed as a backup. Now the starter in Seattle, he’s still making magic on the field. He’s thrown for 1,754 yards so far with 12 touchdowns and only four interceptions. Seattle is still a very run-heavy team, as you should be with running back talent like Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet. Darnold doesn’t get as many opportunities to pass as some other quarterbacks, but he makes them count. At the other end of those passes is often Smith-Njigba. He caught four of those touchdown passes and racked up 819 receiving yards in the process. Seattle’s defense has also been a big part of this team’s success. Head coach Mike Macdonald has put together a tough defensive front that shuts down the run and pressures the quarterback without leaving opposing receivers wide open. The Seahawks are also coming off a bye week, and if they can take advantage of that extra rest and get right back to where they were two weeks ago, they’ll remain undefeated on the road this Sunday.

The Commanders (3–5, 3rd in NFC East) have faced some struggles with a tough schedule and a late bye week in quarterback Jayden Daniels’ second year at the helm. It doesn’t help that the Commanders have had to play three games without him dure to injury, including last week’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He’ll be back in action this week though, hoping to jumpstart the offense against the Seahawks. If the Commanders want to make the playoffs again, these next few weeks are crucial. They face the Lions and Dolphins before their bye week, so starting this stretch with a win over Seattle would be a huge help. Daniels is an excellent passer and a quick rusher as well. He can avoid pressure and turn almost any play into positive yardage. Especially with wide receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end Zach Ertz as his targets. Ertz has hauled in four touchdowns so far this season. That’s half of the touchdown passes Daniels has thrown all season. The Commanders defense has also started to hit its stride, playing faster and getting after the ball more effectively. They also have a former Seahawk in linebacker Bobby Wagner who will want to make a statement against his old team. If they can force Darnold into making mistakes, and if Daniels can come back from injury at full speed, the Commanders will take the win on Sunday Night Football.
