Orlando Magic vs. Atlanta Hawks
The Magic (3–4, 10th in Eastern Conference) fell to the Hawks at home in their second game of the season, but life moves fast in the NBA. Now they’re coming off two dominant wins over the Charlotte Hornets and the Washington Wizards, and they’re ready for revenge in Atlanta. Orlando’s starting five of Jalen Suggs, Desmond Bane, Franz Wagner, Paolo Banchero, and Wendell Carter Jr., have all seen a ton of playing time early in the season. When they’re all on the court together, they’re a force to be reckoned with, particularly when it comes to blocking shots. This squad’s defensive work keeps the Magic in games even if the result isn’t ultimately what they were hoping for. Despite regularly winning possessions, the Magic have struggled on offense, especially three-pointers. Looking at their most recent two wins though, they might have found a solution: Speed. This team is fast. They get back to half-court after a stop in seconds, allowing them more time to set up a play or catch opponents unprepared. If Orlando can keep coming up big on defense, and then capitalize quickly at the other end, they could take down their Eastern Conference rival on Coast 2 Coast Tuesday.
The Hawks (3–4, 9th in Eastern Conference) have faced their own share of struggles early this season. Atlanta saw a tough early schedule that saw them losing to the Raptors, the Thunder, and the Bulls. They put together back-to-back wins against the Nets and Pacers, but they’re now coming off a close loss to the Cavaliers. They’re hoping the home crowd will help get them back on the winning track on Tuesday night. They did beat the Magic the last time these teams faced off but this time, they’ll be without star guard Trae Young. Young suffered a knee injury during the team’s win over the Nets and will be out for at least four weeks. With Young out, the rest of the team will need to compensate. Fortunately for Atlanta, they still have a ton of talent at their disposal. Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Luke Kennard, and Kristaps Porzingis joined the team during the offseason. That trio, along with forward Jalen Johnson, will need to step up their collective game and get on the same page to make up for Young’s absence. They’re already a hard-fighting team with a ton of individual talent. If the Hawks can find a rhythm on Tuesday, they can secure a win at home on Tuesday night.
