In a Peacock NBA Monday matchup headlined by two of the best players in the NBA, the Timberwolves host the Nuggets in a battle of two teams eager to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Nuggets vs. Timberwolves

The Nuggets began their 2025/26 NBA season against the Golden State Warriors with a 137-131 overtime loss on Thursday. Despite a 50-point performance from Aaron Gordon, his career high, the Nuggets could not come out of the Chase Center with a victory to start the year. They will next face the Phoenix Suns at home on Saturday before traveling to take on the Timberwolves on Monday night. Denver hopes to claim their first win of the season against the Suns before they face a difficult test against Anthony Edwards and Minnesota. Nikola Jokic, who came in second in MVP voting last season, secured another triple-double against the Warriors, but struggled from the field shooting only 35%. Still in his prime, his performance this year will be critical to the Nuggets’ title aspirations, who believe they are firmly in a championship window. Jokic’s partner in crime Jamal Murray scored 25 points to go along with 10 assists against Golden State, and if he can continue to take the scoring pressure off Jokic, Denver will be in a good spot moving forward. Speaking of taking the offensive pressure off Jokic, Aaron Gordon dropped 50 points on Thursday night, going 10 for 11 from 3-point range. After Michael Porter Jr.’s trade to the Brooklyn Nets over the summer, the Nuggets will need Gordon to step up offensively and maintain this level of play for the rest of the season. In terms of the rest of the roster, the Nuggets have a deep bench this season, including summer acquisitions Bruce Brown, Jonas Valančiūnas, and Tim Hardaway Jr. Together with young prospects Peyton Watson and Julian Strawther, the Nuggets hope they have provided Jokic with enough help to bring another title to Denver.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have enjoyed back-to-back Western Conference Finals appearances in their last two seasons under head coach Chris Finch. At the heart of that impressive run is 24-year-old all-star Anthony Edwards. Edwards has risen in recent years to become one of the best players in the league and he will surely be the face of the franchise going forward. In their opening night victory against the Portland Trailblazers on Wednesday night, Edwards dropped 41 points to lead his team to the win. Yet, the biggest question this season will be whether the Timberwolves have done enough to build a roster around Edwards that can compete for a championship. Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo have performed well for Minnesota since arriving from the Knicks in a blockbuster trade last October. Randle scored 19 points with 7 rebounds and 6 assists against the Trailblazers, and the Timberwolves will need him to continue helping the offense as a solid No. 2 option for the team. DiVincenzo appears to have taken over the starting point guard job from Mike Conley this season. However, he was limited to only 20 minutes against Portland on Wednesday because of ball security issues, including making six turnovers. Finch will need DiVincenzo to step up and prove he can be the starting point guard going forward, with this game against the Nuggets being a great opportunity to do just that. To round out the roster, Jaden McDaniels, Rudy Gobert, and 2024 6th Man of the Year Naz Reid will be called upon to help the team in another push for a deep playoff run. The Timberwolves also have good young talent in Rob Dillingham, Joan Beringer, and Terrence Shannon Jr., all of whom the team hopes can make big jumps this season.
