The NBA is LIVE on NBC and Peacock. This week, Peacock NBA Monday brings you a can’t-miss doubleheader. The first matchup takes us to Toronto where the Cleveland Cavaliers will take on the hometown Raptors.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Toronto Raptors

The Cavaliers (10–6, 4th in Eastern Conference) are dynamic and fun to watch even though they have dropped a few games early on. At time of writing, they’re coming off a tough home loss to the Rockets, and they’ve got two games over the weekend before Monday night’s matchup against the Raptors. The first is an NBA Cup game with the 2–13 Pacers and the second is with the 4–11 Clippers. On paper, these are both winnable games for the Cavs, so they should come into this Raptors matchup with plenty of confidence. This is a team that plays fast and focuses on creating opportunities to get quality shots. Some games though, the ball just doesn’t go into the hoop. Center Evan Mobley had 18 points in that game against Houston but missed the majority of his free throws. Guard Donovan Mitchell and forward De’Andre Hunter are crucial to this team’s success. Mitchell is averaging 30.2 points per game. Hunter is averaging 18, but put up an impressive 25 points against the Rockets. The real obstacle for this team has been injuries. Starting point guard Darius Garland is out and center Jarrett Allen is day-to-day. The team is also down both Sam Merrill and Jaylon Tyson. That’s a lot of missing pieces and without them, the Cavs will struggle against top teams in the conference. If Cleveland can get Garland and Tyson back by Monday though, and if Mitchell and Hunter keep up their pace, the Cavs have a real shot at pulling off the upset in Toronto.

The Raptors (10–5, 2nd in Eastern Conference) are on a five-game winning streak at time of writing, and that’s likely to grow over the weekend with an NBA Cup matchup against the 1–13 Wizards and the 2–13 Nets. The Raptors already have two games against the Cavs under their belt, both of which they won. The first was a 112–101 NBA Cup group stage win, and the second was a 126–113 victory in Cleveland just over a week ago. This team knows its opponent and could be unstoppable with the home crowd behind them. It’s hard to believe this is the same Toronto Raptors who went 30–52 and missed the playoffs last season. Forward Scottie Barnes is on track to have his best season yet with a field goal percentage of 50 and 19.2 points per game. Having guard Immanuel Quickley back on the court is also making a huge difference for this team. Quickley struggled with injuries last year and only played 33 games last season. Now that he’s healthy, he’s putting up 15.9 points per game with 4.7 rebounds and 6.1 assists. Then there’s forward Brandon Ingram, who joined the team this year and is already making a huge difference with 20.9 points per game and a 49.6 field goal percentage. This team is full of players who can work together and put points on the board from almost anywhere on the court. If they can all keep playing like that, they could see their third straight victory over Cleveland on Monday night.
