In an all-London derby, Crystal Palace visit Arsenal at the Emirates in a battle between two of the best performing Premier League teams this season.

Arsenal v Crystal Palace

With six wins in their last six matches in all competitions, Arsenal are flying right now. They sit firmly in first place on the Premier League table, three points ahead of Manchester City in second, and have nine points out of nine from their three matches in the Champions League. Arteta hopes this superb start to the season will culminate in some form of silverware this season, and the pursuit of that goal continues this weekend with a difficult test against Crystal Palace. Fresh off a 4–0 thumping of Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, the Gunners will be raring to go against their London rival. With two goals in the Champions League this past week, Viktor Gyökeres will want to carry his goalscoring form into this match as well. He has three Premier League goals in eight matches, all coming at the Emirates, and Arteta will look for the striker to add to that tally. Bukayo Saka has taken over the captain’s armband in Martin Ødegaard’s absence and has continued to be the focal point of Arsenal’s attack. Eberechi Eze has stepped up in place of Ødegaard in the No. 10 role and he will be looking to make an impact against his old team. Even with all this attacking talent, set pieces have proven to be the Gunners’ most dangerous threat to their opposition. Declan Rice has arguably the best delivery off set pieces in the league and Arsenal always look threatening from corners and free-kicks. Defensively, the Gunners have four straight clean sheets in all competitions and have only conceded three goals in eight Premier League matches. Teams have struggled to break down Arsenal’s defense, but center-back pairing Gabriel and William Saliba will have their hands full with Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta, who is fresh off scoring a hat trick last weekend. David Raya has been in stellar form this season in goal as well. If the Gunners can dominate possession and score early, they’ll can’t confidently claim all three points against the Eagles.

Currently in eighth place on the Premier League table, Crystal Palace have enjoyed a strong start to the season, losing only one match in all competitions. Oliver Glasner hopes his team can continue this form for the entire season and challenge for the European qualification spots at the end of the year. Jean-Philippe Mateta has been in strong form with five goals in eight Premier League matches, tied for third-most in the league. He is coming off his best performance of the season with a hat-trick against Bournemouth last weekend. Joining him in attack, Ismaila Sarr has been prolific as well. With three goals and one assist so far, Sarr will serve as a constant threat to Arsenal’s defense. Further back, Tyrick Mitchell and Daniel Munoz have been consistent performers for Palace and will be crucial in providing width and jumpstarting the counterattack as the wingbacks in Glasner’s preferred system. Defensively, the Eagles have not kept a clean sheet in the Premier League since mid-September, despite having three in their first four matches. Crystal Palace’s defense will surely be tested at the Emirates and will need to be alert when defending set pieces. Captain Marc Guehi has enjoyed a strong start to the season and together with Maxence Lacroix and Chris Richards, the trio form a formidable back three. Dean Henderson is a good shot-stopper and he will be called upon to make saves against the Gunners and help keep Palace in the game. If the Eagles can survive Arsenal’s early pressure to start the game and focus on their strengths on the counter, Glasner’s men can take points from this one.
