In a Western Conference heavyweight showdown, the Nuggets host the Rockets on Peacock NBA Monday.

Houston Rockets vs. Denver Nuggets

The Rockets are 16–6 and in 3rd place in the Western Conference standings (one spot behind Denver in 2nd). Coach Ime Udoka has followed up his impressive finish as the 2nd seed in the 2024–25 season with a good start to this year. After losing starting point guard Fred VanVleet to an ACL injury this summer, Udoka’s decision to have Amen Thompson run the offense has proven successful. Thompson is averaging 17.5 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 5.2 assists so far this season. Despite this not being his preferred position, Thompson has grown into the role and looks much improved in commanding the offense since the beginning of the season. He will likely match up against Jamal Murray on Monday, so he will be critical on both sides of the floor in this matchup. Joining him is all-star center Alperen Şengün. Şengün has been fantastic to start the season, averaging 23 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 7 assists per game. He will be called upon to keep the MVP frontrunner Nikola Jokic in check. Şengün’s similar playstyle to Jokic will make their matchup a fun one watch. Rounding out Houston’s Big Three is Kevin Durant. Durant is averaging 24.8 points per game, his lowest total since his rookie season. Yet, he’s still averaging the most points on the Houston roster and his experience is critical for what is otherwise one of the youngest rosters in the league. This will be a great opportunity for the Rockets to see how they stack up against a powerful Western Conference rival and they’ll be eager to prove they belong with the best.

The Nuggets are 18–6, currently 2nd in the Western Conference standings. They’ve won four straight and head coach David Adelman will be eager to make that five in a row against the Rockets in front of their home fans. The Nuggets’ offense has been exceptional during their win streak, scoring above 130 points in three of their four wins. Denver’s offense will face a tough test against a Rockets defense that ranks as one of the best in the league, keeping opponents to less than 120 points in five of their last seven games. Denver will rely on Nikola Jokic to break down this Houston defense. Jokic is averaging a triple double this season with 29.5 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 10.9 assists per game. He is currently the frontrunner to claim the MVP this year, which would be his fourth. Supporting Jokic will be the ever-reliable Jamal Murray. Murray has taken a noticeable leap this year, averaging 24.4 points and 6.9 assists per game. His three-point percentage is through the roof at an impressive 44.2%. If he can catch fire in this one, the Rockets will struggle to contain both him and Jokic. Aaron Gordon is still nursing a right hamstring strain and he may be out of the lineup until January. Christian Braun is also likely to miss this game with a left ankle sprain. With two key starters out injured, the Nuggets will likely turn to Peyton Watson and Spencer Jones to enter the starting lineup against Houston on Monday.
