But Dru-Ann (Regina Hall), Tatum (Chloë Sevigny), Brooke (D'Arcy Carden), Gigi (Gemma Chan) are leaving Hollis's sprawling Nantucket estate as changed women.
While two of them are dealing with the fallout from an upsetting secret, another is contemplating an exciting new life. One of the weekend's "stars" is facing a scary and difficult battle. What happens at the end of The Five Star Weekend?
We see Matthew and Hollis argue before his car accident
The beginning of Episode 8 takes us back to where we started in the show's opening scene. Hollis is prepping a Christmas cookie segment in her kitchen, except now it rewinds to when Matthew (Josh Hamilton) was still there with her. The two reminisce about expecting their daughter as he prepares for his "business trip to Belgium" (really, a trip to Europe with his mistress Gigi). It turns into a conversation about how their marriage has shifted since Caroline left for college, and Matthew's barely-masked resentment of her Hungry with Hollis empire.

Heartbreakingly, Hollis tells Matthew she saw that his flight is actually to Paris, not Belgium, and asks if it's really a work trip. He lies, grabs the lunch his wife packed for him, and takes his fateful car ride. Looking guiltily at his sandwich, he calls Gigi to leave the voicemail we heard her replaying in Episode 1.
Gigi tells Hollis one final secret about Matthew
Gigi is passed out drunk in her guest room after once again inserting herself into Hollis's life under false pretenses (this time, buddying up to Caroline at the bar). In the morning, she sneaks out to gift Hollis some morning buns — Hollis assures her this makes up for nothing! — and Gigi says she has one more thing to tell her. It's a final twist to what we thought we knew about Matthew's affair.
"I came here for all the wrong reasons, trying to find closure for myself when I've realized I'm actually here to tell you this: He was going to choose you," Gigi tells Hollis. She recaps the second half of Matthew's voicemail, which we didn't hear: He canceled on Gigi and was turning around to head home.

Hollis confirms it with the police report: he was headed west back toward their house when he hit a deer. "I am gonna forgive you Gigi. I don't want this anger in my life. I don't want to set this example for my daughter," she tells Gigi, handing her a bag of homemade toffee with cardamom (Hollis gonna Hollis).
"One more thing: Don't ever contact me again," Hollis tells Gigi, in the scariest voice you've ever heard Jennifer Garner use.
Hollis's daughter Caroline stays with her —and she knows about Gigi and her father
After apologizing to Tatum's daughter Aubrey for sleeping with the father of her child, she tells Hollis she's heading back to her college town to get a job. But Caroline has a change of heart, and decides to stay with her mom in Nantucket to reconnect.
She also tells both Aubrey and Hollis that she's figured out her father was having an affair with Gigi (in Episode 7, Electra told Caroline and Gigi that she remembers spying Gigi and Matthew in Sacramento).

Tatum has breast cancer
Unfortunately, it's not all sunshine in the final episode: Tatum's doctor finally calls her back about her tests. As she tells her husband (David Denman), they found cells behind her benign lump. She'll presumably soon start treatment and avoid her mother's early death from the disease.
Brooke might be getting both a divorce and a girlfriend
As she packs, Brooke takes a Facetime from her sons and tells them things are changing—meaning, she's leaving her terrible husband (Rob Huebel) — and they support her. She runs into tour guide Sunny (Roberta Colindrez) on the ferry, and it turns out she didn't ghost Brooke, just lost her phone. They smooch and she gets to tell Electra to buzz off. Brooke might've won the weekend?

Dru-Ann is making a big career move
Dru-Ann leaves Nantucket with two new friends in Brooke and former nemesis Tatum. After weathering being canceled and quickly un-canceled online, she tells Brooke she's going to quit her job and start her own agency. "And I'm going to need the support of my friends," Dru-Ann says. Growth!
What happens with Hollis and Jack?
Hollis finds Jack cleaning her gutters (not a metaphor). He tells her he found the message she'd sent him: "You were thinking about me. Before Matthew." When Hollis asks Jack what he wants, he tells her, "same thing I've always wanted," and they hook up for the first time in 30 years.
Jack makes them breakfast in the morning and still-grieving Hollis tells him that "I want to see what this is, but I'm also really tired and sad." Yet at the very end of the episode, the two agree to "start with dinner" as they stroll the Nantucket beach where they grew up.
