After winning over audiences with its sharp workplace humor, beloved ensemble, and mockumentary-style storytelling, The Paper is officially returning for a second round of hilarity. Created by The Office's Greg Daniels and Nathan for You's Michael Koman, the hit spin-off quickly established itself as a must-watch, introducing fans of The Office to the dedicated (and often chaotic) staff of The Toledo Truth Teller. Set in the same universe that once chronicled the employees of Dunder Mifflin, the series found its own niche through heartfelt newsroom stories and an eccentric cast of characters determined to find the next big story.

What is The Paper about?

The Paper follows the reporters of a historic Midwestern newspaper and its dedicated Editor-in-Chief, Ned Sampson, who is recruited to revive The Toledo Truth Teller to its original glory. As a certified spin-off of The Office, the documentary crew that once captured the Scranton paper company's wild antics has returned to film the latest round of workplace shenanigans. From one paper matter to another paper, get it?

“[Ned] thinks that he can revive the paper with a concentration on local, objective content, [and] original content,” creator Greg Daniels told Peacock Blog. "A lack of resources and money forces Ned to recruit employees from other areas of the paper’s parent company, Enervate, which also owns a toilet paper brand called Softees. He takes the ad salespeople and the accountants and the people who drive the trucks and turns them into reporters.”

The Paper

Needless to say, Ned's choice leads the documentary crew to meet a truly unpredictable bunch who are all making the "newbie mistakes" any rookie reporter would make. Daniels shared that The Paper is ripe for sitcom hilarity thanks to the hallmark pressures of a newsroom, mixed with unexpected comedy.

“You want a subject that you believe a real documentary would see as promising. If I saw a documentary about this subject, I would watch it because I think there's drama in it and there are people you can root for.”
