Key Takeaways

  • Disclosure Day, directed by Steven Spielberg, begins streaming exclusively on Peacock on Friday, October 9 after earning $241 million globally in theaters.
  • The sci-fi mystery thriller explores UFOs, alien disclosure, faith, and belief, drawing inspiration from Spielberg’s lifelong fascination with UFO sightings, Roswell, and modern UAP reports.
  • The film stars Emily Blunt as reporter Margaret Fairchild alongside Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Wyatt Russell, Colman Domingo, and Eve Hewson in a story centered on a life-changing live broadcast event.

Four years after releasing his semi-autobiographical film, The Fabelmans, Steven Spielberg returned to cinemas this past June with another massive summer blockbuster, Disclosure Day. And now, it’s coming to Peacock just in time for spooky season.

Spielberg's latest has him returning to the topic of UFOs for the first time since his 2005 adaptation of H. G. Wells’ novel, War of the Worlds. For Disclosure Day, the director directly pulled from his own life-long fascination and research about UFO sightings, pulling together everything from Roswell to current UAP reports around the globe. All of it inspired him to write an original story about the truth of aliens with the help of screenwriter David Koepp (Jurassic Park). Together, they created a taut, mystery/thriller that also digs into bigger topics like faith, empathy, and belief.

An early summer hit around the globe, Disclosure Day earned $241 million at the global box office, and now it's making its way exclusively to Peacock. Find out everything you need to know about how to experience Spielberg’s latest, below.

Set in contemporary America, Disclosure Day grew out of what Spielberg said in the film’s press notes was his own evolution as a believer in UFOs. “During Close Encounters of the Third Kind, I would say to myself: 'Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all of this turned out to be true?’” Spielberg said of his 1977 classic. "Almost 50 years later, I’m now thinking: ‘Wouldn’t be it be wonderful for us to actually know that all of this is true?’”

The film features an incredible cast led by Emily Blunt as meteorologist Margaret Fairchild; Josh O’Connor as cyber security specialist Dr. Daniel Kellner; Colin Firth as Wardex CEO Noah Scanlon; Wyatt Russell as Margaret’s boyfriend Jackson; Colman Domingo as disclosure advocate Hugo Wakefield; and Eve Hewson as ex-nun and Daniel’s girlfriend, Jane Blankenship.

At the center of the story is Blunt’s Margaret Fairchild, a Kansas City reporter who experiences an odd ‘event' while broadcasting live that changes the course of her life forever. Blunt said of Margaret in the press notes, "She is in a situation where she is way over her head. Those are my kind of heroes, ordinary yet interesting people thrust into extraordinary circumstances, struggling to keep their head above water as they search for answers that provide a way out of their predicament. She just felt so human and relatable and surprising; she is just not someone you would expect to be able to do what she does in the film, but you can also believe she is capable of rising to the moment before her.”
