Just in time for the holidays, Peacock is gifting its viewers with an original espionage thriller, The Copenhagen Test.
The eight-episode series drops in full on December 27, 2025 and stars Simu Liu as intelligence analyst Alexander Hale, who discovers his brain has been hacked. Alexander "must maintain a perfect performance 24/7 to flush out who’s responsible and prove where his allegiance lies," reads a synopsis for the show.
The exciting new series also stars Melissa Barrera, Sinclair Daniel, Brian d’Arcy James, Mark O’Brien, and Kathleen Chalfant.
The Copenhagen Test, which Liu also executive produces, sees him front and center in the sci-fi thriller series.
The actor — who was raised in Ontario, Canada after emigrating from China as a young boy — has a stacked resume of varied projects to explore, and even more on the way. Find out everything you need to know about Liu's career, below, and some of the other projects you may have seen him in.
What shows and films has Simu Liu been in?
Liu's most notable role to date was playing Xu Shang-Chi / Shaun in Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the 2021 project that's noted for featuring the first Asian superhero at the center of a big-budget film. The movie was a global hit and made more than $432 million worldwide.
In the wake of that film's massive success, Liu landed a variety of film projects, including playing a rival Ken doll in the 2023 mega hit, Barbie. When it comes to other recent sci-fi projects besides The Copenhagen Test, he co-starred opposite Sam Worthington in 2023's Simulant, and Jennifer Lopez in 2024's Atlas.
Liu earned critical acclaim, along with Woody Harrelson, for the 2025 survival thriller Last Breath. The actor had a starring role in the 2024 adventure film Arthur the King. And most recently, he voiced the dad in the 2025 animated feature In Your Dreams.
Simu Liu's earlier roles
Liu broke into the entertainment business in Ontario by taking jobs that included being an extra in 2013's Pacific Rim, and a stunt performer in the NBC miniseries Heroes Reborn, both of which were filmed in the Toronto area.
For a few years, Liu auditioned and built up a resume of small roles in film shorts, TV shows, and music videos. He landed a recurring role in the crime drama series Blood and Water in 2015.
The same year, he was cast as Jung Kim, the black sheep of the family, in the CBC Television sitcom Kim's Convenience, which aired between 2016 and 2021. Both a critical and audience hit, the series ran for five seasons and propelled Liu into more mainstream recognition. In 2017, he showed his range by changing genres and playing the ex-CIA analyst Faaron in the NBC action series Taken.
Liu's first voice role came in 2021, for the Canadian animated comedy Corner Gas Animated. Since then, he's been a frequent voice performer. He's voiced the character Lah Zhima in a couple of episodes of Star Wars: Visions; his Shang-Chi superhero in both the series What If...? and in the miniseries Marvel Zombies; the charming Chang in a Gremlins animated TV series; and the recurring character Paul Cha in the adult superhero series Invincible.
What's next for Simu Liu?
Next up, Liu leads the cast of Peacock's original spy thriller, The Copenhagen Test, which streams beginning December 27, 2025. The actor will make his Broadway debut in the dark comedy Oh, Mary! as "Mary’s Teacher" on February 3, 2026. And near the end of 2026, Liu can be seen on the big screen with his fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe superheroes in Avengers: Doomsday, in which he's reprising his role of Shang-Chi.
