Watch Sunday Night Baseball on NBC and Peacock.

Coverage for the event will ramp up immediately following the All-Star Futures Game on NBC and Peacock, with NBC Sports presenting the exciting three-on-three co-ed baseball competition making its debut this summer.

What is the MLBx competition? How does it work? Format explained

MLBx will feature four three-player teams captained by MLB greats Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino, and Andruw Jones. Each team will also feature a professional AUSL softball player, via star players Alyssa Brito, Tiare Jennings, Rachel Garcia, and NiJaree Canady. A mix of other pro athletes will round out each team, with Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith, NFL hall of famer Terrell Owens, and two more players yet to be announced rounding out the rosters.

The four teams will compete head-to-head in a bracket-style event featuring two semifinals and a final. Each game will last approximately 30 minutes, with each player receiving one two-minute at-bat during a three-inning game, while the opposing team positions its three players in the outfield. Teams earn one point for each home run and one point for each catch, with bonus points awarded for hitting balls through a center-field target above the outfield fence or calling for a “hot streak” — a five-swing stretch during which offensive and defensive points count double. The team with the most points at the end of each game wins.
