It's the first Monday of May, which means this year's star-studded Met Gala is officially here.

The year's biggest fashion event will once again take place at the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and while the event's primary mission is to raise money for the museum itself, the Met Gala also doubles as a high-profile opportunity for celebrities to strut their stuff on the red carpet, showing off some truly fashionable and jaw-dropping fits.

Guests already confirmed to attend the 2026 Met Gala include Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams (all attending as co-chairs alongside the legendary Anna Wintour), Zoë Kravitz, Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, and many, many more.

What's the theme of the 2026 Met Gala?

This year's theme is "Costume Art," which coincides with the museum's upcoming exhibit.

"The Costume Institute’s spring 2026 exhibition explores depictions of the dressed body across The Met’s vast collection, pairing garments with artworks to reveal the inherent relationship between clothing and the body," the museum explains

The "Costume Art" exhibit will make its debut on May 10, 2026 and run until to January 10, 2027.

The Met Gala's dress code in 2026 is "Fashion is Art"

As announced by Vogue in February, this year's intentionally open-ended dress code is "Fashion is Art."

Ever year, the Met Gala features a dress code that is completely open to interpretation, giving stars the opportunity to flex their creative muscles when deciding how they want to leave their mark on arguably the most important night in fashion. In 2026, as Vogue explained, "The dress code encourages attendees to consider the many ways that designers use the body as their blank canvas."
