Wisconsin lost their season-opener to a powerful Notre Dame team. Since then, they've been able to test out their systems against smaller schools like Western Illinois and Eastern Michigan. This week marks their first real test since the Notre Dame game, and the good news is the team does seem to be progressing. Whether it's progressed enough to hang with Penn State, though, is another matter entirely.

Opening conference play at home is a good situation for Penn State, and they're the clear favorites here even without the home field advantage. They've blown through their schedule so far, their offense is looking potent, and their defense has allowed just 21 points across three games. Wisconsin could definitely turn this into a major contest, though.

Wisconsin vs. Penn State players to watch

On the Penn State side, it's been the Rocco Becht show so far, and the Lions will no doubt be hoping he has another good game to open conference play. The senior quarterback is completing more than 70 percent of his passes, and he's already got nine touchdowns across three games, with zero interceptions. That's a very solid start, and if he can keep it up this week, things look bright for Penn State.

Standing in his way, though, will be a Wisconsin defense that's looked solid, even against mighty Notre Dame (at least in the first half). The real test will be whether or not the defense can stay in the fight long enough for the offense to get control of the ball, or if Penn State will simply wear them down and blow past them. If the Badgers have a shot at winning this game, linebackers Cooper Catalano (the team's leading tackler) and Sebastian Cheeks (their sack leader) will need to have a big day, disrupting the offense, putting pressure on Becht, and getting the ball back to their offense as quickly as possible.
