Newcastle v. Manchester United headlines English Premier League Matchweek 29

One of the most intriguing matches this week has got to be Newcastle vs. Manchester United. Despite advancing to the last 16 in both the Champions League and the FA Cup, Newcastle has struggled to replicate last season’s success in the Premier League. After a 3-2 home defeat to Everton this past weekend, and five losses in their last six games in the league, Eddie Howe’s men have dropped down to 13th place in the table. They are now 12 points behind Liverpool in 5th (the final projected Champions League spot), so the Magpies will look to end the season strong to make a late push for European qualification next season.

Unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League matches, seven of those being under interim manager Michael Carrick, Manchester United has climbed into 3rd place in the table. The Red Devils are level on points with Aston Villa in 4th, but are ahead on goal difference. Benjamin Šeško has been in superb form, scoring three goals in his last three games, enough to earn him a place in the starting lineup against Crystal Palace last Sunday. Šeško and company will look to keep the good times rolling when they visit St. James’ Park, a venue where the Red Devils have struggled in recent memory.
