The iconic castle where the show is set is just as integral to the series and is considered by many to be a character in its own right.

While you may know the show is filmed in Scotland, you may not know the details about the place where Faithful and Traitors alike lay their heads each night — the imposing Ardross Castle.

Here's everything to know about The Traitors' famous filming location.

Where is The Traitors' Ardross Castle located?

Ardross Castle is located in the Ross-shire region of Scotland, nestled against the majestic — and foreboding — Scottish Highlands, and is approximately 200 miles north of Glasgow.

According to the castle's official website, it has a history dating back to the late 1700s, when the 1st Duke of Sutherland purchased it. Since then, the property has exchanged hands multiple times, with previous owners ranging from Scottish royalty to businessmen.

The cast of The Traitors stands outside Ardross Castle Season 3 Episode 4.

In 1983, the McTaggart family acquired the estate and began an extensive renovation process, starting with its gardens. Today, Ardross Castle lives on as one of the most impressive set pieces this side of Love Island USA.

Ardross Castle — despite its reputation for treachery and "murder" on The Traitors — also bills itself as "a fabulous wedding venue that will provide a glorious backdrop to your dream wedding day."

(But if Alan Cumming doesn't officiate your Ardross Castle wedding, does it even really count?)

The show's always-well-dressed host played a big part in Ardross Castle being used as the primary set.

During a recent interview with Vulture, Cumming revealed that he personally advocated for filming to take place in the castle and on its grounds.

“Do it in a big castle, make it so much more glamorous and theatrical," the Emmy winner explained. "I said, ‘You kind of want me to be a James Bond villain?’ And they were like, ‘Yes!’ I decided that it should be ‘my’ castle. I live in the castle and I’ve invited people to my castle. I made this narrative for myself for it to be able to work.”

Don't forget to tune in to see Ardross Castle play host to The Traitors once again when Season 4 premieres on Thursday, January 8 — exclusively on Peacock.
